Holidays and being “extra”

Since this topic has been my most asked about I decided to do a post on holidays first, plus it was just Easter soo... there’s that!

I get asked if I go all out (some people consider it overboard) for every holiday or just Christmas. The answer is No, I do not go all out for every holiday. For example: I literally did nothing for St Patrick’s day this year! I’m pretty sure I didn’t even have my kids wear green. Don't get me wrong, months before I had planned on destroying my house and saying a leprechaun did it and leaving green stuff all over my house and maybe even hiding a pot of gold somewhere.. ok maybe not gold, but you get the point. The reality is though, I have 2 little leprechauns already that destroy my house on the daily in approximately .1374 seconds and I would STILL be the one cleaning up a mess that I made for no reason! Plus, I was First trimester pregnant (fellow mommas know what I mean), I just had Lakelyn's 4th birthday party, celebrated Tyler’s birthday, got the news Tyler’s great grandfather passed away ON St Patrick’s day, and took care of my entire house that had the stomach bug the week before! So sometimes you just have to pick and choose where your time goes. That’s not the only holiday though. Memorial Day, 4th of July, New Years. We don’t do much. We may wear red, white and blue, shoot some fireworks and spend time with family, but we don’t go crazy like some people do. My main holidays are Halloween and Christmas as far as decorations go. I love hosting a Thanksgiving Day dinner/lunch and having all kinds of food and desserts, digging through all of the Black Friday deals and maybe even snagging some online these days! I love getting up and getting the turkey going in the roaster. I seriously get excited thinking about it!

Christmas! I will probably do more posts on this in the future because it’s a biggg topic for me. People wonder if I am spoiling my kids too much by getting them all of these gift, or setting unrealistic expectations because eventually gifts will get more expensive, or they won’t appreciate what they do get. I understand your thoughts. I have more than one love language but gift giving is one of them, if not, my main one for showing my love. I know it’s more about doing what the other person's love language is, but you can have a way that you know how to show your love. Gift giving is mine. I’m not good with words of affirmation or physical touch. Quality time I can do, acts of service I can do, gift giving I can do and can do well. I’m all about finding deals. It’s my thing. I love shopping sales, I love Black Friday, I love feeling the accomplishment of getting something for much cheaper than planned. I love giving people gifts I know they want and seeing their face when they get it makes the holiday for me. Maybe it doesn’t make sense to some people, but for me, Christmas is about the birth of Jesus and celebrating him! He is the most selfless person, he died for our sins. He gave his life for us and we fail him daily. He loves us though, he shows us grace, he would do anything for us and wants us to be happy. Jesus was willing to give for us, I want to be willing to give too. Does that make sense? I’m not the richest person in the world and we still work everyday on our finances (what’s up Dave Ramsey- we’re still working on your method), but I save, budget, plan ahead, shop months and months in advance, and as long as I am financially able to give to someone that cannot financially get something (or even if they can, but I can help them save their money) I will. You don’t have to buy the most extravagant gifts that’s not what I’m saying, but imagine not having much and something that’s $50 has been put off for months because that $50 buys food, pays the light bill or rent or daycare. If I can get you that $50 gift and you don’t have to sacrifice your bills to get it yourself then that fills my love tank. That makes me happy. I grew up with very little money, but when Christmas time came I can’t remember a time when I didn’t get what I asked for. Christmas holds most of my favorite memories as a kid and I’ll have to go into a different post about that, but basically I want my kids to look back and say Christmas holds some of their favorite memories too. I do want them to say they got what they wanted for Christmas, not in a spoiled brat kind of way, but in a felt loved and happy kind of way. If the time ever comes when any of my kids become ungrateful we will most certainly take care of that, but hopefully we are able to teach them the true meaning of the holidays and they will always be grateful.

Financially, when it comes to the holidays. I buy all year long. Things go on sale or clearance and I grab it. I compare previous Black Friday deals with current sales to see which is better or about the same, I’ll thrift shop and if I see it new or in great condition I’m not afraid to get it for my kids. Adults I try to keep new stuff but if I know it’s just one of those things they’ve been wanting and can’t find or they don’t make something like that it’s different. Sometimes it’s a toy I’m not sure if my kid will still like come Christmas, but if there’s another holiday before then they’ll get it then, if not we save it for Christmas and if they end up not being into it still, I’ll donate it to a family in need. I save and budget. So for the past couple of years our family members we buy for have the same budget. One day it may go up or may go down. Who knows, but we discuss it each year. When I hear them mention something throughout the year I put it in my notes in my phone and if I come across it on sale I grab it. Again, hoping they don’t get it before Christmas. It’s like gambling except I keep the receipt so I can return it or usually sell it online. Some of them have been much more difficult to buy for so I like I said I save money throughout the year and come Christmas time I will eventually get an idea and will have that money to buy it and it doesn’t interfere with our monthly bills or anything. Now, this is kinda NOT what Dave recommends, but I still do it. Throughout the year if one of us does a side job or photography session I’ll put that money away. Also, the past couple of years I’ll use any extra money I make from my essential oils business and put it to the Christmas fund. None of this money is our “monthly living money” this is extra we’ve been bless with. So again, we’re not hurting our family financially. We’ve been there though when you don’t have one extra penny to put to a Christmas fund and my only advice is pray, and  when you do get a couple extra dollars or when you can choose to eat out or eat cereal for dinner to put the money to the side. Don’t be afraid to shop thrift stores especially when kids are little. They don’t care when their that young! Shop sales and clearance. When a local store is going out of business stop in and check it out. It’s all about not paying full price!

I hope this little bit of information is helpful to someone! I am always open to questions if you still have them! I'm sure I will be doing more posts on holidays soon :)

15 weeks!

How far along: 15 weeks, 2 days
Baby Growth: Baby is about 4 inches long and 2 1/2 ounces!
My Symptoms: Nothing really, if I don't eat breakfast and only drink coffee I'll start to feel nauseated by lunch time, but I think that is a human thing and not baby related.
Gender:  Not finding out!
Weight gain:  None yet, but i'm sure it's coming!
Maternity clothes: Oh for sure! I can wear regular t-shirts, gym shorts, leggings and such, but as for my jeans or shorts it hurts my belly if i button them!
Stretch marks: No, just old ones
Belly button in or out: In
Sleep: It has been good!
Best moment this week: Nice weather and getting to hang out with the kiddos by the pool! Also had a 3D scan and saw baby <3
Worst moment this week: I have had the pain in my pubic bones for the past 3 days... that is not cool. I thought i had a lot more time before this started!
Miss anything:  Right now, i'm still in a weird stage of I've got a belly, but its not cute or round yet so bathing suits are not cute. I think this will be a struggle all summer long!
Movement: Not anything consistent, but I have randomly here and there. The ultrasound tech said my placenta was anterior again, but kind of to the right some so not completely covering the front, so I may start feeling more movements if baby gets my in the right spot!
Cravings: I don't believe in "cravings" however, I do believe in foods that sound good vs foods that sound gross! BUT I typically don't have these "cravings" very often. It's usually "just pick something and I'll find something to eat"
Queasy or sick: Felt great all pregnancy so far!
Wedding rings on or off: On
Looking forward to:  I want to get the nursery going. We painted it a couple of weeks ago, grey, but now I don't think  I like it. It is SO hard to decorate or get a nursery ready when you don't know the gender. I may just leave everything as it is and then once I have the baby redecorate it.. but who am I kidding. WHO the heck would have time to do that with THREE kids?
Belly Pictures:

I know some of these 3D images look pretty creepy, but this was our first time doing a 3D scan this early, so we didn't know what to expect really! Let me know if you have any gender guesses <3

Playing catch up with baby #3

So this pregnancy has been a surprise from the beginning. So right around Christmas, Tyler and I talked about having a third baby.. like HARD! We went back and forth on it and ultimately decided, we were probably done, but if we had another we wouldn't "try" until Fall of 2019. We even bought a new 4-Runner and went with one without a third row because "we don't need it because we probably aren't actually going to have a third baby." Well, we celebrated Tallen's first birthday and then Tyler's grandfather unexpected passed away from a massive heart attack and I found out I was pregnant... LITERALLY ALL IN THE SAME WEEK!!!! Yeah.

We were a bit preoccupied with funeral arrangements and such to even worry about telling people. I had an appointment at 6 weeks and we saw a baby and a heart beat. 114bpm. We continued on with life and on Valentine's Day decided to announce to everyone after having a second ultrasound and everything looking good and a heart beat of 178bpm (I believe, def in the 170's). We celebrate Valentine's Day and then jump right into planning Lakelyn's 4th birthday party. I had no symptoms at all up to this point. My entire house gets hit with the stomach bug the week before her birthday and that was the only time I felt sick or got sick. A couple of days after her birthday I had a weird feeling of maybe something was wrong because I haven't been sick or had any kind of symptoms. I freaked myself out because of having a missed miscarriage before and thankfully my Dr. is amazing and had me come in for a reassurance ultrasound to make sure things were ok, sure enough they were just fine!

A few days later we celebrate Tyler's birthday and the next day his great grandfather (the father of the grandfather that just passed) passed away. Get this... his birthday was October 7th... my due date October 7th... HOW CRAZYY. So, recap that. Tyler's grandfather passes away - I find out I'm pregnant, his great grandfather passes away - I'm due on his birthday... and just another "fun fact" his grandfather and great grandfather passed away at the same time. 1:07PM was his grandfather's time of death and 1:07AM was his great grandfather's time of death and ya'll if this baby is born at 1:07 I am not sure what I will do, but how weird would that be!

Since then things (THANKFULLY) have been pretty uneventful as far as major events go anyway. I've had so many appointments and things to do that I'm not sure which direction I'm going. We had our 12 week screening for down syndrome AKA another chance to see baby ultrasound and baby's heartbeat was 150bpm and we did not get any guesses on gender. Baby has measured ahead at every ultrasound and at this one baby was almost an entire week ahead. My due date was not changed, but I still keep that in mind because when we get closer to 38/39 weeks I do not want to go over!

Even though we are not finding out the gender we decided to still use that money and do a 3D scan for this baby. We've never had a 3D scan this early before so we were not quite sure what to expect and at the first appointment, of course, baby did not cooperate at all and we got 2 creepy pictures, but heartbeat was still 151bpm. We went back a few days later and baby did better so we got some photos and still have no clue on gender!

That basically sums the entire pregnancy up so far!

Life got busy!

Wow! Has it really been almost a year since the last time I posted on this blog! It's crazy how busy life gets with two kids!

When I originally started this blog it was to keep track of my pregnancies so that I could compare them, as well as keep track of my babies and compare them as well. I did OK with the pregnancy part, but I totally failed at keeping track of Tallen's accomplishments each month!

Anyway, I am opening this back up and planning to do my very best to update as often as possible. I have been getting tons of questions in my Facebook messages and Instagram DMs. They will range from essential oils, to my kids, my life with two and pregnant with #3, holidays, financial questions about the holidays, vacations.. all kind of stuff. So I am going to use this blog to not only try to catch up with baby #3's progress, our family, but also some of these commonly asked questions.

So, here we go. If you don't know me, I am Brittany. I have two babies and one on the way. Lakelyn is now 4 years old and Tallen is 1. My husband's name is Tyler and he is the MAN! He drives me completely nuts, but I wouldn't trade him for the world. We got married May 14th, 2011 and will be celebrating our 8th wedding anniversary next month as well as 13 years together! I am totally obsessed with holidays and football. I love Disney and cruises and would not turn down any opportunity to vacation with my crew and make memories. I can't wait to share our crazy life with you!
