It’s a boy!! Sutton is here!

Ok so where to begin!?

My 38 week appointment I saw dr Reeves! He was going through the motions but he was ok! We discussed my blood pressure being high 134/86. This is always my first sign of Preeclampsia. My urine was good and we did an NST which was fine. He wanted me back in that Thursday to check me again and we scheduled an induction for 10/2 because he was worried I was going to get it again. He said if we wait til 40 weeks I was going to be sick and he was confident in that. So I went back Thursday and blood pressure was still the same, urine was still clear and NST was still good. My cervix still hadn’t changed from less than 1cm and I was soft but he didn’t say how effaced I was, but baby’s head had moved down from the two appointments! He scheduled me back that Monday for one last check and a membrane sweep to try to help me go into labor on my own.

Monday 9/30 was my 39 week appointment at 39 weeks exactly! This is the day Tyler predicted I’d had the baby! That day my blood pressure still hadn’t changed, urine was good and NST was fine and showed a few contractions!! I just new I would be dilated more when he checked but nope still not even a whole cm and not really effaced! So we were going to start cervadil on Wednesday and probably have a baby sometime Thursday!

I left his office and met Tyler in Summerville at firehouse subs for lunch and to get Tallen. Lakelyn was staying with Tyler so he could take her to gymnastics because I just couldn’t I was worn out! I needed to get some last minute things and so tallen and I walked (wel I pushed him in the stroller) to tjmaxx, Ross and target after we finished lunch. Target was our last store and of course tallen was tired and totally threw a fit in the store and I was just totally doneeee! We got  home around 4:00 and he was sleeping so we sat in the car for a few minutes. I finally got him out the car and inside around 4:15-4:30.  I had noticed some on and off contractions but they seemed more like Braxton Hicks so I brushed it off. I had a new breast pump for this pregnancy and decided to get it out and set up and make sure I knew how to use it. I used it for literally 5 minutes maybe to make sure i had it working like it should and stuff and noticed the contractions were coming more intense. I wasn’t really surprised because I did the same thing with lakelyn setting up the pump and it brought on contractions but they fizzled out. After 15 minutes of intense contractions I thought I better time them. We had no AC in our house at this time so tallen and I were in my room with the portable ac unit and he was watching tv. I timed them for 30 minutes and they were every 3-5 minutes for 45 seconds. I started moving around, got tallen a drink, went to the restroom even got in the tub and they never went away and continued every 3-5 minutes for 45 seconds. Tyler finally got home around 5:45 and I told him about them and he was heating up leftovers for the kids for dinner and I let his mom know I was going to try to lay down for another hour and see if they eased up and if not we would be heading to the hospital. I laid down for 1 contraction and it was worse than any other ones I had so I decided I was not laying down anymore. I got up and tried moving around more tried the tub again tried sitting on the toilet and all of it was hurting more. I was having a hard time talking and breathing through them and at this point it was 6:15 and I told Tyler to get the kids stuff packed that we needed to go. I had probably 2 more contractions and Tyler was no where near getting them stuff and I finally told him forget their bags, we live next door they can come get whatever they need for the kids, load my car and grab a shirt and his phone charger and let’s go! We got everything in the car and the kids dropped off by 6:45pm and headed to the hospital. I was in so much pain and every bump we hit brought on a new contraction. I turned the music up and tried to breathe and sing through them but that didn’t work. I started to get to that “oh gosh, oh gosh, owwww” point... kind of like the movies where the lady is screaming and she can’t control it. We got to the ER around 7:20-7:30 and I had to stop and I started crying because they were so painful. The waiting room was packed but thankfully within maybe 15 minutes they got labor and delivery to come get me and take me up to be checked. They knew quickly this was my third baby and things were probably going to move quick which I honestly didn’t believe. Even though I was in so much pain and the contractions were coming every 2-3 minutes apart I thought for sure I’d only be like 1-2cm dilated and get sent home. I literally begged the nurse to not send me home before she even checked me. After I was finally changed, hooked up to monitors and such it was about 8pm when I was checked. I was 4cm and my waters were bulging so she said I would be staying and having a baby! I immediately said when can I get the epidural. I was crying basically with each contraction. She had to get me a bag of fluids in and then I could have it. She also was getting me a room set up. They did the IV and got that going I met the dr which I didn’t even know was the dr at the time and throws my best to not be too loud with each contraction. This was the longest 30 minutes ever! I finally got to my own room around 9:00pm. She said the anesthesiologists was finishing up an epidural and then I was next. I sat on the edge of the bed because that was the only thing even remotely comfortable and cried for them to hurry up for 30 minutes. My mom finally got there at 9:30 ish and thankfully they came in right after that to do my epidural. And I just want to say how grateful I am for 3 amazingly wonderful epidural experiences! They were all perfectly done and cause no issues! I could instantly feel my legs getting cool and tingly and I knew things were going to be good in minutes! I finally laid back in the bed and had a few intense pressured contractions but by 9:45 life was good again! I was happy and talking and ready to roll! Tyler ain’t got there to take photos for us and I was glad she was willing to do that for us with 3 kiddos of her own at home!
They checked me at 10pm and I was 5-6cm and my membranes we’re still intact! They did not have any plans to give me pitocin or anything other than letting my body work which again I was so grateful for! At this point this was the labor experience I had always hoped for but never really gotten with my other two. Each one had started so differently. I figured this was going to be a long process because my other two were long labors. I was begging this baby to stay in until at least midnight because the nurses were thinking the baby was going to be coming before that and I was determined to have an October baby! With tallen I felt my waters leaking even with the epidural.. literally felt like the catheter wasn’t working and I was peeing myself and the same thing happened this time! I was checked a couple times and they didn’t think it was my waters breaking. 11pm the doctor came in and said she was going to break my water and I thought she was joking. She wasn’t and she went to break them but they had already been leaking and there wasn’t anything to break. I was also 5-6 cm still but had lost my bloody show. So again my body was working and owning this labor! At this point it was a race against time.. I was going to cross my legs or whatever it took to hold out 1 more hour!! We made it to midnight and I finally tried to get some sleep. My adrenaline was too high though and even though my eyes and body were exhausted I couldn’t sleep. Tyler got some sleep though lol! 12:45am I was checked and was 7cm. We started having a few instances of the heartrate dropping and she put me on oxygen and I got super scared because of what happened with tallen. After a few she let me take it off and said baby was just playing games because everything seemed fine. I was moved around a good bit and the nurse said if baby’s head would just come down just a little I’d easily be ready. So I suggested sitting up in the bed. I sat like that for maybe an hour and at 2am checked again and still 7cm but baby’s head came down great. So I was positioned awkwardly with my head slightly lower than my hips and I was laying on my right side (I suggested this because this is what I had to do with Tallen too and it worked like a charm). Within minutes I felt a good bit of pressure and it didn’t really feel like it was going away when the contraction stopped. At 2:25am she came in and asked about the pressure and I told her. She checked me and said oh yeah we’re ready to have this baby! I freaked out! I got so nervous and was so scared of something going wrong. She called everyone in the room and then said were not even going to practice pushing you remember how to do it right? And I said yeah. She called everyone in quickly to the room and tons of people were rushing in and out getting stuff together. The dr got dressed and checked me and said ok next contraction push and I had them tell me when because my nerves were so bad! It was probably all of 5 seconds when we both said contraction and I pushed. I felt baby’s head right there and the dr said ok dad when the baby comes out I will show you the gender and let you tell everyone. And then she said ok push again and I did and I felt him come out and she said ok dad it’s a... and Tyler got to see and say boy!!!! He was born at 2:33am! He went straight to my chest once they got him to cry and suctioned, he was not wrapped in his cord at all and he was perfect. He cried a good bit as they were wiping him off and stiff and then the nurse said something I’ll never forget. “Put him under moms gown with his head on her chest, he'll hear her heartbeat and it’ll be familiar and calm him down” literally within seconds he stopped crying!
The new thing now is skin to skin for an hour before they take baby and get measurements and such. It actually goes pretty quick because you’re delivery the placenta, Tyler cut the cord after it stopped pulsating, they cleaned up mostly then before we knew it it was already 30-45 minutes later and Tyler’s ain’t and my mom went ahead and left. They came back in after the hour and did his measurements and I thought he was for sure going to be smaller than my other 2 or the same weight because he looked so tiny! But he was the biggest at 7 pounds 3 oz and 20.5” long!  After she was finished with Sutton she wrapped him up and Tyler finally got to hold him for the first time! He was an hour and a half to two hours old at this point so Tyler was more than ready to hold him! They told me they’d move me to a recovery room after 2 hours post delivery and we only had about 30-45 minutes before we hit the 2 hour mark and even though it was 4am we decided to just stay awake until we were moved. Plus we didn’t see the baby bassinet it was in the corner. At 4:30 am they came in and got me up to pee on my own and making sure I could stand and move. Once that was done we went to our recovery room. Rm 239! We got situated and the nurse was so sweet she brought me a coke and some graham crackers because I was starving and had a headache. She said once I got that down she’d let me shower. So probably around 5:30-6am I got to shower before finally getting a few minutes of sleep before shift change at 7am! All of his tests came back perfect and he was nursing like a champ when he was hungry enough to wake up! He got his first bath at 8 hours old and it was done in the room! All his tests were! He never left our room! He loved his hair being washed but not a fan of being cold! He pooped 4 times before his first pee. His first pee wasn’t until he was 23 hours old! I was discharged Wednesday morning around 10am and they didn’t come get him to do his circumcision until after 1:00! We finally got out of there with him around 3-3:30pm!
I could not have dreamed of a better pregnancy, labor or delivery or hospital stay! Everything was literally so perfect and just like I had imagined! I’m so grateful and blessed to have had my last baby end on the most amazing note!
