I had my first ultrasound on Thursday July 17th. At this appointment I would be 6 weeks even by my last period! I knew that my cycles aren't the "perfect 28" day cycle so I knew I could be measuring behind.
I was super sick that morning and they also messed up my appointment and times. They had me scheduled for a quick visit with him at 7:30am and then an ultrasound at 8! When I get there she tells me that the appointments are backwards and that they should have scheduled my ultrasound first. Well the ultrasound techs don't get in until 8:00 so I had to sit there for 45 extra minutes feeling like I could vomit at any given moment. Not to mention a lady comes in with her two kids and burger king breakfast and sits right in front of me? Really?
Eventually they get me back for my scan and I immediately see the gestational sac! It was very relieving seeing it, however the next part was what I was a little nervous about. When she zoomed in we saw what looked like a yolk sac, but then it was hard to see again. Not that this isn't normal because it is, but obviously we would have liked to see more.
I was measuring 5 weeks and 4 days, so only a couple days behind which is normal, my uterus is tilted towards my back which also makes it a little harder to see. She printed me a picture anyway and we think we could see the yolk sac again.
Once I finished up with her I went back out to the waiting room for me appointment with the doctor. Finally, I got called back and did a urine test and met with him. Test was obviously positive, he said the scanned looked great. He thinks everything looked perfect and right on time. He wanted me to continue taking progesterone (helps strengthen the uterus lining) and wanted me to come back in two weeks to see the baby again!
At that point I would be 8 weeks based on my last period and this would be most women's first appointment. I should be able to see the baby and the heartbeat on this appointment!
